That would be bad if it is the only way to install since I don't use Windows App Store. That would be a showstopper for me.

Please do not convert to App and leave the exe. Apps are fat, slow, they take up a lot of memory... The best thing about SumatraPDF is that it is super fast, lightweight, installs in seconds, starts instantly...
At least keep publishing the .exe file too

+1 for "At least keep publishing the .exe file too"

I'don't see why this feature should be realized.
I just uninstalled all Affinitiy .msix Installations simply to reinstall them as .msi Installations (luckily, they have been reintroduced by Serif after tons of user complaints)!
The reson for this was, that the .msix Installation can not be startetd with a link from a picture viewer - I think that is something many of us need for SumatraPDF too.
Serif had first published some ways to circumvent this problem, but it did not seem to work for all people.

In addition, a heretical thought: Should we really be helping MS to provide Windows applications in a big black box, where the developers become dependent on the manufacturer? Please have look on 'Apple's New Fees Will Kill Free Apps' (youtube): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6dbNzFD0zM. Earlier or later this will happen anyway - but _any_ App not in MS Store delays the process...

kjk: now we have firefox, ditto-cp or just ditto clipboard manager, vlc (not the kiddy-vlc, the real vlc) an audacity clone (these clones seem very bad modded and dangerous but it's so easy to install audacity this way), somebody i know put notepad++ and 7-zip to ms store, which work nearly as good as the original files, and now sumatrapdf. life with windows 10/11 is getting better. libreoffice is missing (there are clones but source code is modded heavily, maybe with spyware), i catched a gimp version (very buggy) now it costs money. thunderbird missing (so far i can use windows mail and calender, soon called one outlook).

even audacity had been uploaded to ms store without spyware now. i got libreoffice with cmd => winget install libreoffice and update sometimes with winget upgrade libreoffice
a
abc
there is a problem with cmd => winget install sumatrapdf. first of all it has to be as administrator (my other programs like libreoffice, anydesk, didn't need it so far) and secondly, it doesn't install sumatrapdf with preview option https://forum.sumatrapdfreader.org/t/no-preview-in-windows-explorer/308 before winget, i could have install sumatrapdf with preview when i activate [X] Let Windows show preview of PDF documents. but if i install it manually, activate the preview and THEN winget upgrade, preview is still on
a
abc
yes please. if sumatrapdf is in ms store, then installing, updating and distributing will be much easier. it's just one simple click.
